How long do negative afterimages stay in ones vision?

My image has been stuck in my head for over 2 years now.

I don't see the same picture I took in colors, I see a clear outlined vision of it.

What do you mean by "my image"??

I get this quite a lot, though generally the image fades after a day or two, or is more generally replaced by other visual static.

I thought palinopsia was more of a neurological problem ie. akin to epilipsy or amesiac-episodes or based on brain malfunctioning...?
